Important note: You take part in Club rides entirely at your own risk.
To meet the requirements of our club insurance via the CTC, all participants should be club members - so either first or second claim. This is to cover against claims on the club in the case of accident or incident.
We strongly recommend that you take out appropriate third party insurance for your own sake. Membership of British Cycling or the CTC can offer you this form of cover.
Depending on group the objective is to ride approx. 55 to 70 miles and aim to be back in the Basingstoke area for 1pm. There is normally a café stop. You'll need to carry at least enough equipment to repair a puncture(s) and be comfortable riding in a group. It's also a good idea to carry food and drink to keep you going and extra kit for wet and cold weather. Also money for food and drink at café stop.
The routes are tried and tested and you'll get to know the local area quite well. There is no formal organisation it's just a case of who ever turns up on the day bearing in mind races, domestic commitments etc.
Depending on the number and the ability of riders turning up on the day, we hope to have the option of two groups:
The Experienced group is for riders with a good level of fitness i.e able to average 16/17mph for several hours over hilly terrain often travelling at 20mph+ on the flat. An experienced club rider will lead the first group. Average mileage 60/70+.
The Development group, for riders with some experience of riding but wanting to learn more about group riding and wishing to build their fitness. Will typically cover 40/50 miles but still averaging 15+mph over mixed terrain where speeds on the flat are often 18+ mph. Where possible two experienced club riders will lead the development group
These figures are for guidance only and will depend on time of year, weather/road conditions and fitness of riders in group!
should intend to leave Monk Sherbourne Village Hall at 09:00 prompt, but make sure you arrive at 08:50am to allow time for a chat/introductions
will aim to have a cafe stop around 11:00
will aim to arrive back at the village hall by 13:00/13:30pm where possible - if not delayed by punctures, mechanical incidents or slower riders
Below is a list of planned club run destinations for the rest of the year but please note destinations can change depending on weather/road conditions and who turns out.
Note: Under 18s must have a completed parental consent form, and handed this to the ride leader before they participate in any club rides
