North Hampshire Road Club

Welcome to NHRC Club Time-Trial Series

The NHRC Time Trial Series is a fun season-long competition for both novice and experienced cyclists, with numerous competitions across a multitude of disciplines. Anyone can join in - time trialling is simply about seeing how fast you can go.

WHAT IS A TIME TRIAL?

Time trialling is the simplest form of cycling competition: a race against the clock, with riders setting off a minute apart. It's known as the 'race of truth' because there's nowhere to hide, no one to draft behind; just you and the bike and the thumping of your heart. Oh, and a clock ticking.

HOW DO I TAKE PART?

If you are a non-member that would like to have a go then you may ride three events before having to joining a club affiliated to Cycling Time Trials (CTT). You can join NHRC by selecting the link Membership

You may ‘Come and Try’ (C&TI) any event marked YES in the Come and Try column of the club’s TT 2017 Schedule

For non-club members, we charge £4 an event and £3.50 for club members.

Note: For all events preference is given to NHRC club members, with non-club riders able to take available places at the event organiser / timekeeper's discretion.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

All you need is a basic road bike, although as you become more established there are many aids that reduce wind resistance and you will go faster. You may consider triathlon handle bars, aero-helmets, aero-wheels, aero-position and skinsuits. Many of the club members are experienced time-trialists and are always willing to answer your questions and give you some advice.

Remember it’s all about gauging your fitness and your progress as times improve.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

NHRC members compete in three types of competitions over the full time-trial season.

  • Club Championships
  • Handicap Events
  • League Series

Club Championships are held over 10, 25, 50 and 100 miles plus a hilly end of season event based on scratch times.

Handicap Events include the Leo Gipson over 10 miles and Frith Cup over 25 miles. Plus, we hold a three-event road-bike challenge over 10, 25 miles plus a hilly course. Each handicap event is based on each rider’s best result over the past three seasons and are used in calculating the handicap results.

Three League Series tables are produced for a veteran’s league, a handicapped series and one based on the hilly competitions.

TEAM TIME TRIALS

In 2017 we are also hosting three fun 2-up team time-trial (TTT) events for both members and non-members. This is an opportunity to work together and share the workload. In addition to the three events below there are various Open Events you can enter to continue to develop your teamwork further. These additional events can be found on the Cycling Time Trial website www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk
